Suzanne Sawyer-Espinoza, MS, CCC-SLP

Professional Life

Suzanne obtained a Bachelor of Science Cum Laude in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Brigham Young University.

Suzanne has more than 20 years experience working in clinical, school and hospital settings treating individuals with a wide range of communication difficulties. She finds great satisfaction in mentoring and teaching others how to foster better communication, and she is often a popular speaker at professional and religious conferences and workshops. In addition to managing Sawyer Speech and Language Therapy and seeing private clients, Suzanne is the Clinic Manager of BYU’s Speech and Language Clinic.

Suzanne has worked professionally with hundreds of children and adults, and has experience with speech sound disorders, language disorders, fluency disorders, social skills, traumatic brain injury, a variety of motor speech disorders, aural rehabilitation,

neurological impairments, apraxia, and processing disorders. Suzanne is trained in orofacial myofunctional (tongue thrust) therapy, and has also received specialized training working with individuals with ADHD. She is especially passionate about helping bring “calm to the chaos” as she works with families and individuals with executive functioning challenges.

Suzanne emphasizes family involvement and education, and believes that considering her client’s family life, emotional development, social implications, and self esteem are all vital for effective treatment. As a parent herself of four children with varying neurodiversity and speech and language abilities, she understands the importance of involving the entire family in a client’s treatment for better carry-over. She strives to provide the most current evidence-based therapy techniques, and attends continuing education conferences and courses each year to maintain her high quality of client-centered therapy.
